As an independent charity we need to raise all our own funds each year. We rely on our Listening and Support Volunteers to help us with all sorts of fundraising activities. You can help us too!
Our amazing fundraising support volunteers get up to all kinds of fun throughout the year. They raise an incredible amount of money for our branch - we need at least £35,000 each year just to keep our branch open. Our fundraising activities include:
- Attending local events, such as the Letchworth Armed Forces Day
- Organising special events like our highly successful Rock Choir concerts
- Holding collections at railway stations, supermarkets, comedy shows, local family events and days out and in town centres
- Taking part in sponsored events such as the Samaritans National Walk, the Hitchin 10K and half/full marathons.
On 16th May 2026 over twenty of our volunteers are raising money for our branch by walking up Snowden - we will post a link to their Just Giving page as soon as it is live.
We are always deeply grateful for individual initiatives, such as the remarkable fundraising efforts of Sarah Graham, the Hitchin-based artist. Sarah created an extraordinary collection of 'Samarivans' paintings, which were sold to benefit our branch. She later went on to produce a beautiful book, the proceeds of which again supported our work, Her creativity and generosity have made a truly meaningful difference.
You can fundraise for us, too! Here are just some of the ways you might help:
- If you are a company, could you make us your Charity of the Year, match-fund your employees to raise money for us, or take part in our Pay For A Day scheme - it costs £100 a day to keep our branch open.
- If you run local events such as Hitchin Priory Summer Series, Letchworth Garden City Festival, North Herts Pride or Todd in the Hole, could you name us your charity for 2026 or 2027?
- Are you someone who runs marathons, or does park runs, swims, cycles or would like to do the three peak challenge? If so, would you consider raising sponsorship for your efforts to donate to us? Or, could you organise a bake-sale, a quiz night, a flea market?
- Are you taking on a challenge or holding a fundraising activity in your workplace?
If the answer to any of these is 'yes', then we would love to hear from you. Just email us at [email protected]. We can give you information leaflets, provide you with collecting tins, share your exciting news to help you reach your fundraising goal and answer any questions you may have about us and our work.
We are always in need of new volunteers to bring their enthusiasm and ideas to our fundraising activities, so if you would like to get involved please contact us and we will be in touch.
