Meet the Directors

Andrew and Carol have been the Harrogate Samaritans Branch Directors since December 2025. Elected by the branch members, the Directors are unpaid volunteers who look after the welfare of both volunteers and callers, as well as overseeing the running of the branch and the building.

As ordinary working people, both Directors feel it is an enormous privilege to lead a branch of such generous volunteers — people who offer empathy, sensitivity, and steady support to callers at the moments they need us most.

What they actually do as Branch Directors

• Support volunteer wellbeing through regular check‑ins, supervision, and creating a safe, supportive environment.
• Ensure the branch is always ready to take calls, from rota planning to safeguarding to making sure the kettle works.
• Oversee training for new volunteers and ongoing development for existing ones.
• Look after the building, equipment, and day‑to‑day operations that keep the branch running smoothly.
• Represent Harrogate Samaritans within the wider regional and national network.
