At Brierley Hill Samaritans, every day is about listening. But on World Suicide Prevention Day, we join a global movement to shine a light on suicide awareness.
This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, encourages open and honest conversations about mental health. Too often, stigma and fear prevent people from seeking support. We believe that by talking openly, we can help save lives.
Whether it’s a quiet chat over a cup of tea or a call in the middle of the night, every conversation matters. You don’t have to be suicidal to reach out: sometimes, just being heard can make all the difference
🏡 What We're Doing Locally
Here at Brierley Hill Samaritans, we’re marking the day with a renewed commitment to outreach and visibility. Throughout September, our volunteers are:
- Hosting information stands at community centres and public spaces
- Sharing stories and resources on social media to encourage open dialogue
- Offering extra listening shifts to ensure support is available when it’s needed most
We’re also encouraging everyone to take part in the #TalkToUs campaign, because sometimes, the most powerful thing you can say is “I’m here.”
🌟 How You Can Help
- Check in on someone—a friend, a neighbour, a colleague. A simple message can mean the world.
- Share our number: 116 123 (free to call, 24/7)
- Volunteer or donate to help us continue our work in the community
💚 You’re Not Alone
World Suicide Prevention Day is a reminder that behind every statistic is a story, and behind every story is a person who matters. If you’re struggling to cope, or worried about someone else, we’re here to listen, without judgment, without pressure, and always in confidence.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s be there for one another.
