This year’s Dudley Pride was more than just a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ identity, it was a powerful reminder that mental health support and community care go hand in hand with visibility and joy.
💚 A Safe Space in the Heart of Pride
Nestled among the rainbow flags and glittering outfits, the Samaritans’ stall offered something quietly profound: a place to talk, reflect, and be heard. Volunteers from the Brierley Hill branch welcomed visitors with warmth, compassion, and resources tailored to the LGBTQ+ community. Whether someone needed a moment of calm, a listening ear, or information about ongoing support, the Samaritans were ready.
Their presence was especially meaningful in a space where many attendees, young people, older adults, and families alike, may have faced isolation, discrimination, or mental health challenges. The message was clear: you don’t have to go through it alone.
Throughout the day, Samaritans volunteers engaged in open conversations about emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention, and the importance of reaching out. They shared stories of resilience and recovery, and encouraged attendees to take home not just leaflets, but hope.
One volunteer shared:
“Pride is about being seen. We’re here to make sure people feel heard too.”
🌟 Beyond the Parade
The Brierley Hill branch continues its work year-round, offering emotional support by phone and email, 24/7. While their physical location at Beryl House is currently closed to face-to-face visitors, their commitment to the Dudley Borough remains strong.
Their involvement in Dudley Pride is part of a broader mission: to be present in the community, wherever people need them most. Whether it’s at festivals, schools, or quiet moments at home, Samaritans are just a call away.

🏳️🌈 Why It Matters
Mental health challenges disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those navigating identity, rejection, or trauma. Events like Dudley Pride offer celebration, but also a chance to connect with services that can make a lasting difference.
By showing up, listening, and offering support, Samaritans Brierley Hill helped turn a day of pride into a day of healing.
Let’s keep the spirit of Dudley Pride alive, by celebrating love, embracing diversity, and supporting each other every step of the way. 💖
