We’re proud to share how a generous £20,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund has helped us continue our vital work here at Brierley Hill Samaritans.
Every day, our volunteers offer a listening ear to those in emotional distress and thanks to this funding, we’ve been able to make key improvements that ensure our branch remains a safe, welcoming, and active part of the community.
Here’s how the funding has made a real difference:
🔐 Securing Our Space with a New Fence
One of our first priorities was improving the security of our branch. With part of the funding, we installed a new perimeter fence, helping to protect our building and create a safer environment for both our volunteers and visitors. We also fitted a new alarm system, adding an extra layer of protection to ensure our premises remain secure around the clock. These upgrades are more than just physical improvements; they’re about safeguarding the space where life-changing conversations happen every day.
🏠 Keeping the Branch Open and Running
Maintaining a local Samaritans branch involves more than just answering calls, it means keeping the lights on, the heating running, and the building in good repair. A portion of the grant has gone toward essential upkeep, helping us cover day-to-day costs and ensure our branch remains open and fully operational. This support has been crucial in allowing us to continue offering our services without disruption.
📣 Expanding Our Outreach in the Community
We’ve also been able to invest in outreach work, connecting with community groups, and local events to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. These efforts help us reach people who might not otherwise know about Samaritans and remind everyone that support is always available, both day and night.
