About Borders Samaritans
Our branch has been providing support to people in the Borders for many years.
We offer emotional support in person, by telephone, by email & by text, and on average each year we help over 6,300 people going through a tough time.
Everyone in the Branch is a volunteer, from Lynne, our Director, to our part time fundraisers. We have 28 volunteers. Although Samaritans is best known for its listening volunteers who answer the telephones, there are so many other ways in which you can help us. We have roles in Fundraising, Publicity and Outreach for example and a cleaner/s is/are required.

Our work in the community
A really important part of Samaritans work is to reach out to people in the community and work with other organisations to raise awareness of what we do and offer support to as many people as we can.
We have an outreach team who work with, for example, local schools. We love giving talks to anyone who invites us, so we can spread the word. If you are a teacher at a school, or a member of a club or society, we would be delighted to come and talk to you about the work Samaritans do. Please contact us using the General Enquiries button.
Samaritans, as an organisation, has been training staff on how to deal with emotional situations for over 10 years in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Find out more about our workplace training.
Make it your year of listening to people
Improving your listening skills to look after the people around us could be one of the most successful resolutions we could make all year. It's difficult sometimes to know how to open up a conversation with a person, struggling with things in their lives. If you are looking for ways of opening up a conversation read our tips on how to start a difficult conversation.
