About Banbury and District Samaritans

Banbury & District Samaritans has been providing support to people in our local area and beyond for over 40 years. We mainly cover the following areas:

  • Banbury
  • Brackley
  • Bicester
  • Buckingham
  • Towcester
  • Chipping Norton
  • Daventry
  • Shipston on Stour

We have been in Albert Street - in the heart of the town - since we were founded in 1974. We offer emotional support in person, by phone, by email and by text and on average we help around 20,000 people a year.

If you have any queries about the branch, its administration - including fundraising, sponsorship opportunities & requests to talk at events - or any other enquiries, please ContactUs

Working in the Banbury community

An important part of Samaritans’ work is to reach out to people in the community and work with other organisations to raise awareness of what we do and offer support to as many people as we can.

Our outreach team works with local schools and gives talks to anyone who invites us, so that we can spread the word! You can read more information on our outreach work here.

Volunteering in Banbury

Everyone in the Branch is a volunteer, from our Director to our part time fundraisers.  We have between 60 and 70 volunteers.   Although Samaritans is best known for its volunteers who answer the telephones, there are so many other ways in which you can help us.  We have roles in administration, fundraising and building maintenance for example.

Fundraising at Banbury and District Samaritans

We need to raise money to continue our work.  We hold regular fundraising activities to find the £75 per day needed to run our branch. You can support us by coming along to an event, donating to us or offering ideas on how we can raise money.

When you shop online you can raise funds for Banbury & District Samaritans at no extra cost to yourself by visiting our page at easyfundraising before you make your online purchase.

Banbury and District Samaritans news

  • Hook Norton Beer Festival

    21st July 2018
Our branch members were very busy talking to festival-goers and soaking up the atmosphere at Hook Norton Beer Festival which raises thousands of pounds for charity every year.
  • Banbury & District Town Show

    11th June 2018
What a great day we all had at this year's Town Show on Sunday, 10th June - even the weather was kind to us making ice creams compulsory!
  • She did it! Celia's fundraising husky mush

    3rd May 2018
Celia, a listening volunteer at Banbury and District Branch, drove (mushed) a team of huskies 200 kilometres in arctic conditions across Sweden in April to raise funds for the branch. She travelled with a group of strangers - seven who were also undertaking the challenge plus two guides and a doctor; slept in a teepee (with outside bathroom facilities!), looked after her team of dogs and all in temperatures down to -30C. Celia's epic adventure has raised an incredible £2,500 for the branch, with more money still coming in.
  • Outreach Team at Banbury & Bicester College April 2018

    27th April 2018
As part of Banbury and Bicester College's Health Awareness Week, members of our Outreach Team, led by Branch Director Will Adams, were invited to join students at Banbury College for talks on who Samaritans are and what they do.
