Accessibility

Samaritans is committed to providing a site that is accessible to everyone. We are always seeking to improve our website and its ease of use. Our guidelines include:

  • Designing the site for different monitor sizes - including mobile phones - so horizontal scrolling is not required
  • Using meaningful alternative text for all images to provide descriptive text
  • Using a simple colour scheme
  • Using a standard font which is easy to read

The site has been designed to adhere to best practice by following W3C standards. Pages have been built to comply with a standard of WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines, and where possible we have aimed to achieve AAA.

Images

Where possible, we have used descriptive alternative text for relevant images across the site to assist screen readers.

Video

We use YouTube to host our videos, and where possible videos used on the website will have their captions coded into the video file. Where this hasn't been possible, the captions will have been created within YouTube. These captions can be accessed by clicking the 'CC' button within the video player.

Feedback

We are always seeking to make improvements to the site and welcome any comments, suggestions or feedback. Please email webmaster@samaritans.org if you have any problems or suggestions.
