Welcome to Reading Samaritans

Reading branch has been offering emotional support to those in crisis for more than 45 years. When the branch first started in 1962 it was run by just three volunteers in a small church hall. We now have over a hundred volunteers from all walks of life and all ages who continue this hugely important work.

Together Reading volunteers have ensured that emotional support has been available continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Reading branch also supports Listeners, who offer emotional support to those in Reading Remand centre. We also provide a talks and information service to many local schools and groups.

Situated in Cholmeley Road in the Newtown area of Reading, near Cemetery Junction on the A4, we are also open for drop in visitors without appointment between 09.00 and 22.00 each day. See HERE for a map and directions.

We are always looking for new people to join us - either as listening volunteers, offering emotional support to those who need it, or as support volunteers looking after administration, publicity, fundraising, etc.  See HERE for more information.  Change someone's life: your own!
