Samaritans are very pleased to remain Kerrang! Magazine’s Official Charity for the fourth year in 2008!

The Rock for Life campaign promotes the service that we provide and, in particular, highlights our email service jo@samaritans.org

Why email?  Email is perceived by young people to make Samaritans’ service more relevant to them and their lives. By email they feel able to contact Samaritans about a wider range of issues that trouble them. They feel they have greater control over the ‘conversation’ than by telephone. And they feel confidentiality is increased.

As a result, Samaritans believes that simply raising awareness of its email service among young people will make a difference.  Samaritans receives more than 4.8m contacts each year, most by telephone but an increasing number – 100,000 last year – by email.

The Rock for life campaign has been very successful over the past year with over 40,000 wristbands and dogtags being sold in aid of Samaritans.

Did you know that 1 in 10 teenagers self harm?  That every 2 days, 5 young people take their own lives? Or that suicide is the leading cause of death of men aged 15-34?

Samaritans provides emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week By supporting our campaign you are helping us to continue to be an emotional rock…for life.

So far Rock for Life supporters have bought wristbands, dogtags and bid in three Rock for Life auctions.  Thank you!  You’ve helped us raise over £36,000 which enables us to provide our entire service for a day.
