Dear Visitor,

The Chester and District Branch of Samaritans
prides itself on its long and unbroken record
of service to its Callers and community.

Behind the unassuming façade
of 36 Upper Northgate Street, Chester
there is always a trained Volunteer at the end of the phone; and there has been, every hour of every day and night
for nearly 50 extraordinary years.

Those who seek our support, know it is a safe place to talk; they will never be condemned for their views or failings
nor judged for how they choose to live, or end, their lives.

We do not offer advice or technical expertise;
we provide a gentle, confidential listening ear
and the opportunity for callers to express their feelings
with the freedom and honesty that often isn’t possible
with those they know.

Our Callers are not necessarily suicidal;
many are seeking emotional support
either to help them through a short-term crisis,
or to give them the strength to continue
with the on-going problems and sadness of their daily lives.

We all need a little help sometimes…
