We've been proudly supporting the local community for more than 50 years and currently have over 180 volunteers in our branch at 19 St Stephen’s Square, Norwich.

Our branch is made up of mostly listening volunteers, who provide emotional support by phone, email, text and face to face. We also support people in prisons at HMP Norwich and HMP Bure.

In 2015 our branch:

  •     received over 51,000 calls for help
  •     responded to over 1,500 emails
  •     answered more than 3,500 texts messages
  •     and met with 599 face to face visitors at our branch

We also have branch support volunteers. They do vital work that contributes to running our branch, including fundraising, administration, raising awareness and working in our shops on Aylsham Road and 5 Westlegate, Norwich.

  • Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich visit Norwich Samaritans 

    12th October 2016
    On 27th September, Norwich Samaritans welcomed the Lord Mayor Marion Maxwell and Sheriff of Norwich, Richard Marks to their branch. During their visit the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich meet with listening and support volunteers to hear first hand about the vital service they offer to the community.
  • It's Okay To Talk This World Suicide Prevention Day

    7th September 2016
    The Norwich branch of Samaritans are teaming up with Andy’s Man Club to encourage people to reach out for help and support when life feels overwhelming. In the run-up to World Suicide Prevention Day, (September 10), Norwich Samaritans are backing a big push to reduce deaths by suicide, by telling men in particular that ‘It’s okay to talk’.
  • Norwich Samaritans want your unwanted goods

    26th July 2016
    Norwich Samaritans are asking for people to come forward with any unwanted items and donate them to one of their two charity shops. Bill Ashton, Branch Director for Norwich Samaritans said: "It costs us over £100,000 to run the branch each year and last year we had in excess of 50,000 contacts either by phone, face to face, by text or email. We receive no funding from local or central government and are therefore completely dependent on public donations (money or items for our two shops) to keep the service going. Our volunteers are at the end of a phone 24/7 for anyone who needs someone to talk through whatever is going on in their lives can call us for free on 116123".

    Norwich branch of Samaritans are encouraging people to become better listeners by asking members of the public to come and join them as they take to the Haymarket in Norwich on Wednesday 27th July as part of their annual Talk to Us campaign.
