Samaritans Media Guidelines

Samaritans Media Guidelines are here for journalists reporting suicide in any media from factual description to dramatic portrayal.

Developed over time with the press, they outline suicide facts, media myths, signs of suicide risk and offer advice on what to avoid as well as suggesting recommended phrases to use when reporting or talking about suicide.

Samaritans and Network Rail join forces to reduce suicide on the railways

In January 2010, Samaritans and Network Rail launched a pioneering five-year partnership to reduce the number of suicides on the railways. The results of the first 18 months are now available, including a number of short videos from front line Network Rail staff giving their thoughts about the benefits of the partnership.
