Our Branch

Our branch was established in the basement of Trinity Church, Russell Street Leek in 1966. As we have grown we moved to Fountain Street in 1976 and finally to our current home in Queen Street in October 2017. We are delighted to be celebrating our 60th year in the town in 2026 and are hoping celebrate and promote the work of Samaritans in the Staffordshire Moorlands throughout the year. Keep your eyes open for our events which will include a sky dive, a treasure hunt and the sale of a unique recipe book with 60 of our favourite recipes.. Perhaps you would like to support our anniversary celebrations by raising £60 for us in our 60th Year, We would love to hear from you if you would [email protected]

Our Volunteers

We are ordinary people who give our time freely to be there for our callers in their time of need. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our friendly and supportive team. It may surprise you to know that alongside listening volunteers we also need people who can help promote the work we do, fund raise, manage our finances, recruit and train new volunteers, keep our records straight and help us integrate across the local communities. As a regular commitment we look for only 3 hours a week and the timing of these hours can be flexible to fit around your other commitments. Why not give us a call to find out more on 0330 094 5717 or text us for more information on [email protected]

Training and Support

Our listening volunteers (those who provide support to people who ring in on the Samaritans helpline) receive training and support before starting their volunteer duties. We usually offer two courses a year for new Listening Volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Listening Volunteer please get in touch and we can tell you more about the next course. We can also put you in touch with one of the team who can talk to you about what its really like to volunteer at Leek. Here is our number if you would like to find out more 0330 094 5717

Local Events

We support local events. In 2025 we were involved in the Pride in the Moorlands event, we were part of the wallabies trail across the Moorlands towns and we were proud to turn the Nicholson Memorial samaritans green on the longest night of the year. We also have stands at the rural shows such as the Ipstones show. If you would like Samaritans to attend your event, please email your request to [email protected]

Keeping us Going

It costs over £1,000 a month to keep the doors open at Leek Samaritans and we are very grateful for any contribution you are able to make. Organising a fund-raising event, either as an individual, group or workplace can be engaging and exciting and can bring people together in a common cause. If you would like to fund raise for us just click on the donate button at the bottom of this page to set up your event. If you need any help with setting this up please give us a ring on 0330 094 5717.
