Samaritans is a listening service whose volunteers befriend people who are feeling suicidal and those passing through a crisis.

We give people the space to think and the opportunity to talk and share their thoughts and feelings in complete confidence.

Every year over 200,000 people attempt to take their lives, most of these do not really wish to die - they just don't want to go on living with things the way they are.

But every year 7,000 people do kill themselves.

Who really cares for those people on the verge of despair who are contemplating suicide?

Samaritans do.

The Samaritan service is run by 18,700 volunteers and is dependent entirely on voluntary support, we now need more volunteers in order to continue our support.
