Samaritans is a helpline service which is available 24/7 and is about working with people to create a safe space where they can talk about what is happening, how they’re feeling and help them to find their own way forward.

Samaritans volunteers are ordinary people from all walks of life who understand that there are sometimes things that you just cannot talk about to the people around you and that very often, with some time and space, people are able to find their own solution within themselves.

There are around six hundred Samaritans volunteers across Wales working in our nine Welsh branches.  These volunteers respond to people in distress every day of the week via telephone, e-mail, text and in person at our branches or at events across Wales.

We also work with the public and the media to inform them about Samaritans and explain how we can help people find their own way forward.

We reach out to groups where there is a high risk of suicide and emotional distress. We work in partnership with other agencies to achieve change locally, and inform policy decisions which have an impact on suicide risk.
