How we can help
CHESTERFIELD SAMARITANS - 55 Years of Listening
About Us
This year, we’re celebrating 55 years of listening and we’re launching our 55 Donors for 55 Years Appeal, inviting members of the local community to help support our work.

Since opening in 1971, generations of local volunteers have been there to listen without judgement, supporting people across Chesterfield and the surrounding areas through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Last year alone, volunteers at Chesterfield Samaritans responded to more than 5,600 contacts by phone, webchat, email and face-to-face outreach, providing emotional support to anyone struggling to cope.
Gaby Vauclair, Director of Chesterfield Samaritans, said, "Marking 55 years of listening is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the volunteers who have helped make Chesterfield Samaritans what it is today. While the way people contact us has evolved over the years, our purpose has remained the same - to provide a safe place where people can be heard without judgement”.

Volunteer with Us
We pride ourselves on being a great place to volunteer, and we are always looking for more listeners to join us. The volunteering environment for our listeners is friendly and extremely supportive and all volunteers receive extensive training.
More information about becoming a listening volunteer and other volunteering opportunities with Chesterfield Samaritans can be found here.
Outreach
While our volunteers help to deliver the national Samaritans listening service, we are passionate about being at the heart of the community and supporting local people. We attend a range of different community events to reach those most likely to be struggling.

Donations and Fundraising
As an independently registered charity, we need funding to do our important work. We are striving to become financially sustainable, and we welcome donations, sponsorship and support from local donors, grant funders and corporate businesses. Every contribution helps us continue to be there for people when they need us most.
