Fundraising

Sheffield Samaritans relies on fundraising to keep its vital service going. Just Giving offers an easy way to  donate to us very simply by credit or debit card. For more information see our webpage: www.justgiving.com/sheffieldsamaritans/donate

Our ‘Listening Lottery’ is a way of donating to Samaritans and having a chance of winning a prize draw at the same time. A donation of £20 gives you membership of the lottery for the next twelve months – with  4 chances per year to win (first prize: £100, 2nd prize: £50, 3rd prize: £25.  For more information please contact: Listening Lottery, Sheffield Samaritans, 272 Queens Road, Sheffield S2 4DL or email: queensroad@sheffieldsamaritans.org.uk

Outreach and partnerships

The branch currently has an Outreach Officer, Carol Sexty, whose role is to raise awareness about what we do and encourage new volunteers to join us. With Carol’s help, the Branch is now actively promoting what we do, through talks to organisations, stalls and publicity. Partnership working is an important aspect of our work and we have good links with NHS Sheffield, Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, Sheffield City Council and many others.  We are members of the Time to Change campaign, which aims to end mental health discrimination. For more information on the campaign log onto: http://www.time-to-change.org.uk/.

For more information about our outreach and partnership work, email Carol on: carol.sheffieldsamaritans@hotmail.co.uk or tel: 0790 7890309.

Volunteering

We are looking for new volunteers to run our vital service,  providing confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

As well as opportunities for ‘listening volunteers’, we are also looking for people to support us by volunteering in other ways, for example admin, outreach and fundraising.

We are a friendly branch and volunteering with us is varied and interesting - no two days are the same.

We hold regular information events open to anyone interested in volunteering with us. Here you can chat to experienced Samaritan volunteers and find out more about what we do.

All of our volunteers are fully trained and supported.

To keep our Branch running, volunteers all do a minimum of 13-14 hours a month, (one three hour shift a week and one four hour overnight shift).

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please click on 'Volunteer at this branch' above or ring 0114 2767277 or contact the branch via the admin. Email address: queensroad@sheffieldsamaritans.org.uk

Anybody who is interested in becoming a volunteer is invited to one of our regular information events. These are held at our centre, 272 Queens Road, S2 4DL. The next information event is:

Monday 26 March 2012,  7 – 8 pm

Please come along to one of these events!

Charity Shopsheffield new

We have a charity shop at  45 Chapel Walk, Sheffield S1 2PD
phone: 0114 2724010

Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm

A team of volunteers staffs the shop,10 to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm.

We would welcome contact from anyone interested in volunteering at the shop or as a driver . You can call in and ask for an application form. References will be asked for and followed up.

Working there is fun and interesting and the staff support each other in a tolerant and friendly environment.

Volunteer drivers collect goods every week from the Centre and deliver them to the Shop.

The Shop is 15 years old, and is still trading successfully. We are proud that our profits help maintain the vital service provided by Sheffield Samaritans to people in distress and despair.
