In 1977, the Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee, Liverpool Football Club won the European Cup for the first time and on 28 April the Southport & District Branch of Samaritans was opened.
Now one of 19 Branches in the North West Region and of 201 across UK and the Republic of Ireland, Southport Samaritans (a registered charity) has about 90 listening volunteers at any one time and receives on average over 30,000 contacts from callers a year.
Contact can be in a variety of ways, by telephone, face-to-face callers to the Branch or by e-mail.
