We know that some children will be missing out on something very important this Christmas – a hug from their dad.
Read Mark’s story below and see how your £4 donation could bring a family back together this Christmas.
Last year we received over 198,000* calls during the Christmas season and many of these calls are from men.
Sadly, in the UK men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.
Mark contacted Samaritans three years ago after his family fell apart. Being apart from his children over the festive season was almost too much for him to bear and it was then that he called Samaritans.
“Making that call was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. But the volunteer who answered was calm and understanding. By the end of the call I really saw things differently”.
That call changed everything for Mark. He realised that he could still be a good dad and he begun to look forward to his future.
This year, thanks to a supporter’s gift of £4, Mark will spend Christmas with his children. Your donation could bring another family back together this year. There’s no greater gift.
As wonderful as Christmas can be, it inevitably brings increased demands on family life. Because of this, at a time of year when most other support services are closed, it’s even more important for Samaritans to be here. With almost no government funding, we rely on donations to keep our phone line open.
It costs just £4 to answer one call from someone struggling to cope, and one call is all it can take to save someone like Mark.
That call might be the start of a journey that reconnects a family, and could be the most precious gift you give this year.
