Why we’re here
Samaritans of Plymouth, East Cornwall and South West Devon was founded over 40 years ago. Today, as well as supporting people in need, volunteers for Plymouth Samaritans play an important part in the local community.
Each month, we visit The Salvation Army's Devonport House Lifehouse, listening to people affected by homelessness. Read our Devonport House page for more information. We also give talks at schools, clubs and other venues throughout our area about the work we do.
Our work with Dartmoor prison
Samaritans of Plymouth, East Cornwall and South West Devon work with Dartmoor prison to reduce the number of self-inflicted deaths and self-harm by providing a number of different support mechanisms. Click here to find out more.
Volunteer at the Samaritans of Plymouth, East Cornwall and South West Devon
Information sessions are run throughout the year to give an idea of what volunteering is all about. Why not come along to meet existing volunteers, learn about the Charity, ask questions and decide if volunteering at Samaritans is right for you. To find out more about volunteering and for details on our next information sessions visit our volunteer page. To register your interest, please complete our online volunteering form.
As well as volunteering roles focussed on listening to people on the phone, there are many other ways to help Plymouth Samaritans, such as with housekeeping or book-keeping, event management, or fundraising. For more information, come to an information session or contact the branch.
