Since it was founded in 1970 the Perth Branch of Samaritans has served the local community and played its part in the wider delivery of Samaritans' service throughout the UK. Our premises are on the corner of Kings Place and King Street overlooking the South Inch, conveniently close to the city centre and a short walk from the railway and bus stations. We have a team of around 50 volunteers of all ages and from many different backgrounds all committed to the vision that fewer people should die by suicide.
How can we help?
You don't have to be suicidal to contact Samaritans. We offer confidential, non-judgmental support by telephone, e-mail, SMS texting and face-to-face meeting to anyone who is in distress or despair.
In the Community
As well as supporting our callers we work towards reducing suicide in conjunction with Perth and Kinross Council and other partners under the Choose Life initiative. In H.M. Prison Perth we train and support serving prisoners who act as Listeners for other prisoners in distress or at risk of suicide. We regularly deliver talks and presentations to schools, church organisations, Rotary and Probus Clubs and anyone else who is interested in learning about our work. If you would like us to talk to your club or society please write to us at the above address.
Would you like to join us?
We believe we are a friendly, welcoming branch and we are always delighted to hear from anyone who may be thinking about volunteering. If you are interested please click on "Volunteer at this Branch", complete the online form and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. We hold information sessions for potential volunteers every 2-3 months and training courses in the spring and autumn.
Meet us at the Perth Show
We will have a stand at the Perth Show on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August 2015. If you're going to the Show do call in for a chat - we'll be delighted to talk about how we can help you and how you can help us.
