Samaritans of Ipswich and East Suffolk

We've been proudly supporting the local community for more than 50 years.

We currently have around 100 volunteers at our branch on St Helen's Street in Ipswich. Most of our branch volunteers are listening volunteers, who provide emtional support to people by phone, email, text, and by receiving branch visitors.  

We also support people at probation hostels, soup kitchens and prisons, and at events like Suffolk Pride, Ipswich Music Day and Felixstowe Carnival.

In 2015 volunteers at our branch had contact with more than 17,500 people. This included:

  • 12,167 phone calls
  • 1,365 emails
  • 1,075 texts
  • 281 visitors to our branch
  • 223 people outside the branch

We also have branch support volunteers. They do vital work that contributes to running our branch, including fundraising, administration, raising awareness and working at our shop on Carr Street, Ipswich.
