Our branch has around 125 listening and support volunteers. As well as contact by phone and email, we are open for callers to visit us in Colchester every day (see times above).

Our Volunteers range from early twenties to people in their eighties. We hold regular information evenings for anyone hoping to become a listening or support volunteer.

Last year Colchester Samaritans responded to 30,442 contacts from callers.

    Many thanks to The New Inn in Chapel St South, Colchester, who picked Colchester Samaritans to be the pub's chosen charity for its ‘Brewery Takeover Event Days’, which took place between Thursday 18th and Sunday 21st May.
  • Rotary Club's Big Sleep Out helps Samaritans and Beacon House

    Support Volunteers Lesley Galpin and Phil Brown, along with many local dignitaries, helped to raise an astonishing £11,000 for Colchester Samaritans and Beacon House by taking part in the Rotary Club of Colchester Forum's charity fundraiser on 6th May 2017.
  • Book Fairs at Walsingham Road

    1st May 2017
    Join us for a coffee or tea, a nibble on a biscuit and a browse through our books. Samaritans Book Fairs have become ‘must attend’ events for book lovers. Since 2012 over £20,000 has been raised in aid of Colchester Samaritans and almost 6,000 people have passed through the doors. Next Book Fair: Saturday 27th May 2017.
  • Local Lightship decked out with Samaritans banners

    Many thanks to the Colchester Sea Cadets, part of the UK's oldest nautical youth charity, who have just put up Samaritans banners onto the sides of their Lightship, moored at King Edwards Quay at the Hythe, on the east side of Colchester.
