Our branch has around 125 listening and support volunteers. As well as contact by phone and email, we are open for callers to visit us in Colchester every day (see times above).

Volunteers range from early twenties to people in their eighties. We hold regular information evenings for anyone hoping to become a listening or support volunteer.

  • Colchester descends on Cornwall for National Walk 2016

    9th May 2016
    A team of 26 volunteers, supporters and friends from Colchester Samaritans will be taking part in the annual Samaritans National Walk on Saturday 11th June to raise much needed funds. This will be the biggest group from any of the 201 Samaritans’ branches.
  • Quiz Night raises £580 for Sams

    22nd April 2016
    A successful Spring Quiz Night in aid of Colchester Samaritans, held on Friday 22 April at the Walsingham Road Community Hall, raised a huge £580, which will help with the running costs of the branch and go towards the purchase of a Samaritans van for outreach work in the community.
  • Clash of Knights raises over £2,200

    18th April 2016
    Over 600 people were at Hedingham Castle on Sunday 17 April for a ‘Clash of Knights’ triathlon in aid of Colchester Samaritans. Historia Normannis, a 12th century re-enactment society, held the medieval challenge at Hedingham, with teams of knights in full maille taking part.
  • Funds needed for outreach van

    16th April 2016
    Colchester Samaritans is looking for funding to help buy a dedicated van to further their work in the local community. Around £25,000 in total is needed to enable volunteers to take their message around Colchester and to towns and villages in North East Essex and the Suffolk borders.
