Our branch has around 125 listening and support volunteers. As well as contact by phone and email, we are open for callers to visit us in Colchester every day (see times above).

Volunteers range from early twenties to people in their eighties. We hold regular information evenings for anyone hoping to become a listening or support volunteer.

Last year Colchester Samaritans responded to 30,442 contacts from callers. The full name of our branch – Samaritans of Colchester, Tendring and Suffolk Borders – describes the 'CO' postcode area we serve.

  • Vote for us to be Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year

    We are delighted that Colchester Samaritans has been shortlisted by the Priory Walk branch of Sainsbury’s to be their Local Charity of the Year 2016/17. The public vote is now open. Voting ends on 26th June 2016.
  • Colchester descends on Cornwall for National Walk 2016

    12th June 2016
    A team of 26 volunteers, supporters and friends from Colchester Samaritans took part in the annual Samaritans National Walk on Saturday 11th June to raise much needed funds. This was the biggest group from any of the 201 Samaritans’ UK and Ireland branches.
  • Book Fairs at Walsingham Road

    1st June 2016
    Join us for a coffee or tea, a nibble on a biscuit and a browse through our books. Samaritans Book Fairs have become ‘must attend’ events for book lovers. Since 2012 almost £16,000 has been raised in aid of Colchester Samaritans and over 4,500 people have passed through the doors. Next Book Fair: Saturday 25th June 2016.
  • Quiz Night raises £580 for Sams

    22nd April 2016
    A successful Spring Quiz Night in aid of Colchester Samaritans, held on Friday 22 April at the Walsingham Road Community Hall, raised a huge £580, which will help with the running costs of the branch and go towards the purchase of a Samaritans van for outreach work in the community.
