My name is Deb and I'm the Director of the Lewisham, Greenwich and Southwark branch of Samaritans.
We've been supporting our local community since 1969, providing 24-hour support to over three quarters of a million people across our three boroughs.
As well as answering telephone calls, emails and texts, we are engaged with our community outside the branch. Our outreach work includes working in partnership with schools, homeless shelters, prisons and Network Rail to help people in distress and make sure that people are aware of our service.
As a branch we are always looking for support locally so that we can be there, providing a safe place for people to be themselves and talk to us confidentially about whatever might be troubling them.
Being a volunteer can help change lives and we are always looking for people to help us provide this vital listening service, as well as support roles in the branch such as fundraising. Why not come along to one of our information evenings and find out about becoming a volunteer? We hold them regularly at our branch in New Cross, and it would be a pleasure to meet you and let you know what we do, and the ways that you could help.
