Alan's volunteering story

Alan, a volunteer with Samaritans

I’m Alan and I’ve been a volunteer with Samaritans for 16 years. I have two children and am involved in coaching a local kid’s football team. In my spare time, I enjoy strumming (not very well!) on the ukulele.

Being a Samaritan means being there for people who are going through a wide range of difficulties in their lives. Often it can involve a person telling you - a complete stranger - something that they've never disclosed to any other person before. Giving them the space to do that is the ultimate privilege.
