Every step could save a life

Brenda Blethyn OBE:

Samaritans can be a life-saver. Please support their Coast to Coast fundraising walk to help raise essential funds so they can continue this life-saving work.

Starting on Saturday 14 July 2018, in St Bees Head, Cumbria, the walk will take in two coasts, three national parks and 200 miles of footpath before finishing on 30 July in Robins Hood’s Bay, Whitby.

Working together with eight Samaritans branches representing communities across the north of England, walkers can sign up for one or more of the 16 legs of the route.

Each leg of the walk will bring its own challenges, many with tough mountainous terrain, but every stage of the walk will have an experienced walk leader and a first aider to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day.

Not only is this an exciting opportunity to take on a personal challenge of your own, it’s a chance to walk side by side with Samaritans volunteers, and to show your support for the incredible work they do to help people who are struggling to cope.

An overnight walk is planned for one stage on the 24 July to help mark the round the clock nature of the support Samaritans provides …24/7.  This stage of the walk will culminate in a warm public welcome in Richmond market square.

Registration is free but we ask that you raise at least £75 in sponsorship to support Samaritans in the North.  This is how much is costs Samaritans for a trained listening volunteer to help fifteen people to see a way through whatever is troubling them.

Participants will receive a free Samaritans t-shirt to wear with pride on the walk.  You must be physically fit to take part.  If you have any concerns please consult with your GP before signing up to this event. Please note that dogs will not be allowed on this walk. If you need to take an assistance dog with you, please get in touch with the organisers to discuss the suitability of the stage you are looking to do prior to registration.
