U Can Cope

2012 World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) saw Open Minds Alliance CIC, Samaritans, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Southwick Media Consultancy release the U Can Cope multimedia multiagency media campaign to support and promote awareness of issues around suicide and measures to reduce rates of suicide across the UK.

The theme of the 2012 WSPD was ‘Strengthening Protective Factors and Instilling Hope’.

To this end, we commissioned a film entitled U Can Cope, released on 10th September 2012, WSPD. The film features compelling stories of surviving suicidal thoughts, with commentaries from Dr Alys Cole- King, a leading clinician in the field working at Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board in North Wales, and Professor Stephen Platt, an eminent academic in this area who have both worked closely in the production of this powerful and thought-provoking film.

The film promotes 3 main messages:

1. Anyone can experience suicidal thoughts.

2. There is always hope.

3. There is always help.
