Samaritans volunteer wins prestigious Cardiff University award

Samaritans volunteer Kate Davies has been named the recipient of the prestigious Honour Roll at Cardiff University’s Enriching Student Life Awards 2013. This special award is given to a student who has achieved outstanding achievements alongside their studies, and in doing so has not only improved the university experience for fellow students but has also made an impact in the Local Community.

Speaking about her time at Samaritans, Kate said:

“When previously dealing with personal conflicts, I knew I could always turn to my family for care and support. During this time I came to empathise with those who do not have such a support network, which is where my volunteering with Samaritans Cardiff began.

Samaritans was an opportunity to give back to a community who need support and don’t know where to turn. I believe the Samaritans organisation is invaluable to the Welsh community. It is non-judgemental, confidential, and volunteer listeners do just that, listen.

Supporting others by giving them a voice and a platform to share their emotions meant a lot to me. It was also self-healing to help other people, and I urge anyone to volunteer for this great organisation if they are considering doing so. It will change your life."
