Samaritans' partnership with United Welsh Housing Association

From Anthony Whittaker, Chief Executive of United Welsh:

"United Welsh is a not-for-profit organisation providing housing and related services for people in Wales. We currently manage around 5,000 properties across 11 local authority areas.

"Staff are able to select a corporate charity to support each year, with any member of staff able to nominate a charity and vote for their preferred cause.  In November 2012 we were delighted that Samaritans Wales was the popular choice as our corporate charity for 2013.

"By supporting the Samaritans, a cause close to our hearts, we are not only planning to raise as much money as we can but we are also hoping to help promote their services and volunteering opportunities to our tenants and communities across South Wales.

"Monthly fundraising activities take place at our offices coordinated by different teams within the organisation.  We are using our unique tenant engagement model ‘Together’ to enter a team into the inaugural Caerphilly 10k run in June – staff and tenants will be running as part of one team to fundraise for Samaritans Wales.

"Staff can take 4 days from work each year to take part in volunteering and community activities to help the areas in which we serve and this is the next avenue we will investigate to further our partnership with Samaritans for 2013.

"Both organisations recognise the significance of partnership working through the Samaritans' mission and our own values. We seek to work with like-minded organisations for the benefit of all as together we can do more."
