Samaritans Chair wins award for inspiring communication

Samaritans chair Jenni McCartney has won a major charity award for inspiring communication. She received the honour at the CharityComms’ event in London last night.

The Inspiring Communicator Awards recognise the winners for their professionalism, innovation and creativity, their dedication, communication with volunteers and their flair for promoting their charity externally.

Jenni regularly appears in the media to support Samaritans and promote the work of the charity, as well as delivering speeches and presentations to Samaritans’ volunteers and other external organisations.

“I am thrilled to receive this award because good communication is fundamental to Samaritans’ success. As a long-standing listening volunteer I know that communications is a two-way street, it’s not just what you say, but how you listen to the other person and how you relate to them, that makes a crucial difference.”

Jenni took up her post as chair in January this year, and she has more than 30 years of experience as a volunteer in Samaritans’ branches in Surrey and Hampshire.

Samaritans CEO Ruth Sutherland said: “Jenni is highly skilled at getting her points across with wit, warmth and charm. Good communication is at the heart of Samaritans and we feel Jenni very much leads from the front and sets an inspiring example to our 21000 volunteers.”
