National Rail Award for Samaritans Network Rail team
Samaritans Network Rail team have won the Safety Award at the National Rail Awards. This award can be won either by an individual or a company that have shown a tangible commitment to improving safety.
At the event close industry partners ASLEF, the British Transport Police, East Midlands Trains, Network Rail and Samaritans won the Safety Award for their collaboration in delivering the suicide prevention programme.
The judges commented that:
“This initiative addresses not only the trauma of a suicide, but is proactive in trying to prevent them. Identifying someone at risk is only part of the approach and providing staff with understanding and confidence for them to be able to approach and help someone is an important part of the work. Of equal importance is providing support to those involved, especially drivers.”
The Awards were attended by over 1000 people from the rail industry, amongst them many from the suicide prevention programme.
Congratulations to the team!
