Bristol Samaritans - chosen charity for 34th Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Martyn, Samaritans Bristol Branch Director Bristol Samaritans were delighted to be the chosen charity for the 34th Bristol International Balloon Fiesta (9-12th August). The Fiesta is held every August.

Martyn, Bristol Branch Director and Maggie, Bristol Branch Deputy Director, attended the press launch to promote Bristol Samaritans.

Bristol branch's marquee had giant ‘Jenga’ and giant ‘Connect 4’ games to encourage children to stop and play, and a post-it notes board, ‘What helps you keep going, when you feel like ****?’

The Chairman’s Reception was on the Thursday evening, where the Lord Lieutenant, Mary Prior, Bristol Samaritans' patron, spoke on their behalf. The Branch also ran a special raffle that evening for a balloon flight, a BBQ and champagne, raising £960.

A model balloon was flying our banners and a large hot-air balloon as well.

Over the four days lots of very good contacts and new friends were made.

Maggie said, "It was a excellent weekend, raising £4500, but equally importantly it made us realise how highly the Samaritans are thought of and why we give up our time so freely."
