Author who beat addiction launches book at Millwall FC in support of Samaritans

Millwall Football Club will be home to the official launch of a bestselling book on beating addiction on 3 November, which is helping to raise funds and awareness for Samaritans.

Get Your Life Back: The Road to Freedom From Addiction, by Chris Hill, is dedicated to the author’s twin brother Rob, a massive Millwall fan who died after battling addictions to alcohol and drugs.

Chris’ own life has been a journey through all kinds of addictions, from smoking his first cigarette at the age of 7 to using crack cocaine and heroin some 20 years later. But, unlike his brother, Chris found a way through and wants to share with others his knowledge of beating addiction and keeping on the road to recovery.

Chris Hill said: ‘I always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with what I was doing but I had no way out, or so I thought. It’s not until you understand the impact that addiction has on your mind that you can begin to make the necessary changes to your life.

“Addiction can affect any one of us, whether it’s related to health problems, relationship problems, money, alcohol, drugs or gambling. It's a huge problem in society. I hope this book will help raise awareness and reach out to those who are suffering. And I want to remind everyone that, whatever you are going through, Samaritans is there every single hour of the day and its trained volunteers will listen, in confidence, without judging.”

Get Your Life Back shot to the top of the Amazon bestseller charts in its category on its first day of release. Chris has already raised £2500 for Samaritans via a 24-hour ‘Facebook Live’ event, where he broadcast live for a whole day and night from the social networking site. He answered questions about addiction and his book and was joined by a range of guests, including representatives from Samaritans, as well as celebrities like DJ Brandon Block.

This week’s official launch event at Millwall FC’s The Den ground will see a range of speakers as well as some famous faces, plus musical entertainment. Signed copies of Chris’ book will be available and all proceeds on the night will be donated to Samaritans.
