Alison Moyet donates Brighton tour date profits to local Samaritans branch
On Wednesday 8th November, pop singer Alison Moyet wowed the crowds with a breath-taking performance at her sell-out concert at the Brighton Dome where she performed a fantastic set in aid of Samaritans.
The evening was a stunning showcase of her electronic pop material from new album ‘Other’ alongside classic torch songs like Whispering Your Name, All Cried Out and Love Resurrection. Amongst those singing along to such an emotional and thought provoking set were volunteers from Samaritans - Brighton, Hove and District.
Branch Publicity Officer Henry Smith said: “What a great night! Alison Moyet was sensational - at times euphoric, at times melancholy, it was a dazzling journey through her latest tracks and old school classics.
“It didn’t take much to get the Brighton crowd on their feet. We were overwhelmed with everybody’s generosity towards our bucket collection and the outpouring of supportive comments we received about Samaritans service. Thank you.”
Alison said: “I have become aware of just how vital the services are that the Samaritans provide, having a close family member who is a volunteer.
“In Brighton, we are blessed by great diversity and this is reflected in the volunteer group. Within our community too, many people are struggling to find their way.
“Loneliness is endemic and often people find themselves without support. In Brighton, uniquely, we have a branch that strives to always provide a 24-hour service for those in need of someone to listen without judgment or opinion.
“Brighton Samaritans is fully run by volunteers. I am donating the profits of my Brighton show to our Brighton branch in order to help fund this much needed and universal life saving service.”
Brighton Branch Director Alison Pratt said: “Samaritans, Brighton, Hove and District feel very privileged that Alison Moyet has made the Brighton date of her world tour a fundraiser for this branch, and we want to say a massive thanks to Alison for this generous act.
“This has come at a great time for us, as it marks the start of our 50th birthday celebrations. In our 50th year we are planning several events to take place in the local community to publicise what we do and hopefully further support those around us. Our aim is to raise funds to respond to even more people who are in need of emotional support at any time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
