Samaritans take calls from over 3 million people every year, that’s around 10,000 calls for help every day. York Branch has over 140 volunteers who take calls or work in support and we serve the York community by raising awareness of our service and availability and by reaching out to anyone in need.

We attend festivals and events, open days and meetings as well as delivering emotional support in our universities, to our armed forces community, the over 60’s and vulnerable groups across the city and in the surrounding area. We proudly support the LGBT+ community, our farmers and agricultural workers, our prisons and our emergency services.

Pay for a Day Scheme

Our Pay for a Day scheme allows you, your family or your business to help support and keep our branch open. You can choose to help by donating as little as £7 to keep our branch open for an hour or more which will help with our daily running cost. Local Fundraising

Local fundraising is critical to enabling the branch to continue to provide much needed support for callers. We welcome any donations, large or small. 

Text giving is a quick and easy way to support our vital work. All you need to do is send a text message from your mobile phone to a special, five-digit text message number. The donation gets added to your pay monthly bill or taken off your pay as you go credit.

Text 'YORKSAMS 5' to 70085. This will donate £5 to our branch. Substitute the ‘5' with any amount of your choice (for example 'YORKSAMS 10' for £10 or 'YORKSAMS 10' for £20)

You can also click on the “Donate to this branch" link at the bottom of this page to donate via debit or credit card. This will take you to our Enthuse fundraising page. 

It costs us £125 to keep the branch operating for 24 hours. We would welcome contact from individuals or organisations who may be interested in supporting our 'Pay for a Day’ scheme.
