WORCESTER SAMARITANS 10k AND HALF MARATHON RUNNERS RAISE OVER £20,000
On Sunday 17 September 53 runners - Samaritan volunteers, family and friends, and others from within and outside Worcester - took part in the Worcester City 10k run and half marathon on behalf of Worcester Samaritans. Worcester Samaritans were selected to be this year’s charity partners for the event, with Events of the North, and this was a ‘first’ for their fundraising efforts.
Runners, supporters and onlookers had a fantastic day, and the total raised so far in Samaritan sponsorship is over £20,000.00: a wonderful result.
Samaritan branches are totally self-funded, and all trained Samaritans are volunteers. Samaritans are available round the clock to give emotional support to people in distress, by phone, email, SMS text and face-to-face visits to the branch. The money raised by the recent event will go directly to the Worcester branch, helping us to support residents throughout Worcestershire, and will be a very valuable addition to funds for the coming year.
A BIG THANK YOU, to everyone who made this possible: the runners, their families, their very generous sponsors, and to the Samaritans ‘behind-the-scenes’ team who worked so hard both before the event and on the day. Special thanks to Ben Smith, ultra marathon runner, who was a great addition to the publicity Samaritans gained on the day. “Thank you all - you were amazing”, said Meg Richards, Director of the Worcester Samaritans.
Worcester Samaritans are very happy to announce that they will also be the charity partners of Worcester City Run in 2018.
