Saturday 27 March marks the 2 year anniversary since the launch of the Million Hour Challenge - the rail industry’s volunteering initiative to help support Samaritans.
The aim of the challenge is to bring staff from across the rail industry together and encourage them to volunteer their time to support us, while also helping improve the mental health and well-being of those working in the sector.
To date a total of 30 rail organisations employing some 165,000 staff have already signed up to the challenge however we are keen to attract more rail staff to sign up via the website and to take part.
Rail staff can get involved in the challenge in lots of different ways. From taking part in Samaritans training online learning and training courses such as the ‘Wellbeing in the Workplace’ and our ‘Managing Suicidal Contacts’ course, to organising or taking part in fundraising activities in their workplace or supporting our fundraising and awareness raising activities and events. They can also explore possible volunteering opportunities to help support their local branch of Samaritans or perhaps even taking the plunge and join us as a support or listening volunteer - it all counts!
