Swindon and District Samaritans is a charity in its own right, linked formally with the national Samaritans Charity.
We have a board of trustees responsible for the general management of the administration of the Charity and its property and affairs. Funding, finance, Asset Management, Health and Safety, Building Maintenance and Services as well as publicity are all the direct responsibility of the Trustees. Trustees may come from outside or inside the branch and are elected or appointed at the Annual General Meeting each year and normally serve for a maximum of three years.
The Director is nominated by the branch and officially appointed by the trustees of the Central Charity. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day contact and management of the Branch to enable its work with suicidal people, or those in crisis, to be carried out effectively.
We need to raise around £60,000 per annum to fund all our activities. We receive no public funding and rely entirely upon fundraising, donations from the community along with profits from our charity shop. All roles are unpaid apart from our part-time charity shop manager and housekeeper.
