If you'd like to support and volunteer for Scunthorpe Samaritans but don't feel you'd like to answer the phones we would love to hear from you.
Recently we've been approached with some amazing opportunities to raise some vital funds for the branch but as we don't have enough "Support Volunteers" and we've had to turn them down. These opportunities have included money collecting at supermarkets and manning stalls at local county fayres. On average a day at a Supermarket money collecting can raise around £300 for the branch which is vital to keeping our phone lines open.
"I thought you had volunteers"
We have 50+ phone volunteers locally and 30+ volunteers for the shop and we will always be happy to hear from people who want to take part in these roles, but we also need people that will be happy to give their time on an ad hoc basis to assist us with our fundraising!
"What would I need to do?"
To be inducted as an official support volunteer you will need to attend a half day workshop so you understand who the Scunthorpe Samaritans are and how they work in case you're asked when you're out on your travels but also so you can continue to promote the charity when an opportunity arises.
You'll then have access to our internal communication network and we will call on you when we need a hand for events such as those mentioned above. You do not have to attend and assist with them all but we're hoping with having more people on board we will be able to share the load of these events effectively.
"Ok, you've sold it to me, I can spare some time"
Our next information session is on the 10th March 2018, 10am until 1pm at Central Community Centre in Scunthorpe. Please email Barbara or ring on the number above to let us know if you're hoping to come along. We look forward to seeing you there!
