Working In Your Community

Although we're available to our callers via phone, email, text and face to face in our branch we also work on getting out into the community to support people in different settings. We're always aiming to add more but below are just a few of examples of where we can currently be found.

Integrated Care Partnership, Epsom

In conjunction with the Integrated Care Partnership we have established a listening surgery at the Old Cottage Hospital in Alexandra Road, Epsom. Samaritans are there from 1700 to 1930 every Thursday. Book an appointment on 0844 4122232 or just drop in.
Samaritans believe that talking about your feelings can help to alleviate distress and despair. GPs and other medical practitioners may not have the time to talk at length to people whose underlying problems could be founded in stress, Samaritans do.

Downview Prison & Visitors Centre

The Downview Visitors’ Centre works with the families of prisoners at Downview women’s prison.

Having a wife, daughter or mother in prison can be a very distressing time for the family. They may be worried about the prisoner or worried about those left at home such as children. Many family members have to travel a long way which can add to the distress.

Our branch attends on alternate Thursdays and Saturdays to support the families and raise awareness of the work Samaritans do.

Working with Local Schools

We have a very comprehensive schools programme through which we offer talks, presentations and to take assemblies in any secondary school within our area as we want to tell young people about the support that they can get from Samaritans.
We also offer specific teaching resources called DEAL (Development of Emotional Awareness & Learning) designed to help teach pupils about Emotional Health.
Schools we have already worked with in our local commmunity are:
Therfield School (Leatherhead)
St John's School (Leatherhead)
Roseberry School (Epsom)
Ashcombe School (Dorking)
If you would like to talk to us about how we can work your school please call 01372 375555.

Network Rail Partnership

As part of Samaritans organisation wide partnership with Network Rail, Leatherhead branch has links with Leatherhead, Dorking, Ashtead and Epsom stations. We have a specially trained team of volunteers who are able to attend stations to offer support to anyone vulnerable who might need it and also attend following an incident to support, passengers and staff.

Network Rail Partnership Information

We can also be found running awareness events at our local stations handing out leaflets and contact cards so please come say hello and take a card, even if you don't need it, someone you know might one day. We publicise where we will be through our Twitter feed (@LeatherheadSams
