As Arts Week gets into full swing, on Sunday the volunteers from the Kilkenny & Carlow branch will set off from the Samaritan Centre on Dean Street, Kilkenny, to spread the word to the people of Kilkenny. The message: We are right here, in your town, and we want to be right here for you!
Having been a small Branch for a number of years, Kilkenny & Carlow Branch now have over 100 volunteers, enthusiastic and eager to get the word out to their local people that they are there for them. No matter what the time is, no matter what the problem is, you can call Samaritans for free on 116123, text 087 2 60 90 90, email: firstname.lastname@example.org, call into the Branch after 2pm during the week - even on bank holidays, or after 5pm on weekends, or you can now simply take a walk down you streets. Talk to a samaritan volunteer ready to listen to you from 2nd September on Tullow Street in Carlow or from 9th Sept along the Parade in Kilkenny, and every second week thereafter. You will spot us wearing our bright green Samaritan t-shirts.
We plan on becomiing much more part of the scene in Kilkenny & Carlow, you will see a lot more of us and hopefully you will find us approachable and easy to talk to. We truly hope this will help the local communties. We hope people will get used to the idea that we really are there to support them, and that people have the courage and self awareness to use the space we will provide for them.
This is one of the ways in which the Kilkenny & Carlow Branch are reaching out to the local communities to offer their support to those who might need it.
