Welcome to Isle of Wight Samaritans

INTRODUCTION

Samaritans of the Isle of Wight operate from our centre at 52 South Street, Newport, next to the Fire Station. A small but busy and friendly branch, we are part of the national network of Samaritans branches and take calls from all over the country and sometimes further afield. As part of our service, we take phone calls and emails, as well as being open for face to face callers, at the times given above. We also have an active presence in the island’s prisons.

We are always looking for new people to join our team. If you want to learn what it's like to be a volunteer with Samaritans then visit our pages on how volunteering with us can change your life. If you would like to know more about our branch or for an informal chat, please get in touch using the General Enquiries Form. As well as Listening volunteers, we are always looking for those who might carry out some of the many support roles within our branch and also in our shop at Lugley Street in Newport.

Samaritans are remarkable people but at the same time don’t forget that they are ordinary people too. They come from all walks of life and with all kinds of life experience. What we are looking for is volunteers who are prepared to listen without judging, to be compassionate, caring and confidential. We take great pride in the quality of our training schemes and there are always other Samaritans keen to support you.

Isle of Wight Samaritans depend on public support to raise enough money to keep us going.

If you would like to talk to us off the record about how you're feeling, and would like emotional support please call our Free phone 116123 or email [email protected]
