The new Halifax & Calderdale Samaritans branch at 29 Harrison Road was officially opened on Wednesday 14th May by Stephen Hoddell, Chair of Samaritans.
The move from Hopwood Lane was possible due to a generous legacy from local business man Harry Hamer.
With callers and visitors increasing yearly it was considered necessary to move to more suitable premises and Harrison Road has access for less able visitors as well as parking nearby.
The branch received a grant from Community Foundation for Calderdale for a lift in the branch which enables everyone to access all areas of the building. Most of the fundraising for the everyday running costs comes from the Samaritans shop in Elland and its wonderful volunteers. Other events are organized to raise money and donations are also gratefully received. Items are always needed for the shop; please drop them at the shop in Southgate, Elland or at 29, Harrison Road.
Brenda 643, current Director of Halifax Samaritans, said: “We are really pleased with our new and improved premises. We hope that this will offer a very warm welcome to anyone visiting the branch and for our volunteers. A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard on the relocation.”
