Samaritans got a weighty contribution from a diet-and-fitness group when Glow East Devon handed over a cheque for £100 to the charity.
Emma Healey, Glow’s coach for East Devon, handed the cheque over to Helen Crossfield, the director of Exeter, East and Mid Devon Samaritans (pictured with the Glow group - Helen holding cheque, Emma with microphone).
“We got a donation of £1 from each of 100 members during our Fabulous February weight-loss challenge. It was fantastic that so many gave to such a great cause” says Emma, who presented the cheque at the end of a Glow session in Topsham.
“The group has members aged 20 to 86 who attend weekly sessions in order to lose weight, get fit and feel fabulous” says Emma.
“This just goes to show that everyone’s donation counts and that you giving money to charity can be fun as well as fulfilling” says Helen.
“Samaritans relies entirely on voluntary donations - we receive no grants and no official funding - so we’re extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution” she says.
The charity provides support to people who are distressed or in despair which may lead to thoughts of suicide. People can talk to us at any time, in their own way and in confidence, about whatever is going on in their life.
