Outreach North East.

Our Outreach programme takes us to school & colleges throughout the North East. From August last year we have given presentations in the four counties of our region. We work around the needs of the school or college and their timetables. For some colleges, like the Drogheda Institute of Further Education, we made weekly visits to facilitate the students. All in all, this year's outreach programme has brought us face to face with just under 2,000 second and third level students.

Drogheda & North East branch covers an area from Drogheda, County Louth, on the east coast to the western end of County Cavan and from the top of County Monaghan down to the bottom of County Meath.

We cater for sixty plus 2nd & 3rd level colleges and have an outreach team of around ten people. All of us really enjoy the presentations and the chance to meet new (and almost invariably younger) people and be exposed to new thinking and attitudes is such a boost and helps us keep our minds open.

We enjoy the feedback we get from the students and feel it is a privilege to meet with them and to be able, in some small way at least, guide them along the path of communication and sharing. And they, in turn, help us to keep our own skills fresh and relevant.

Another thing that we are starting, in collaboration with the branch in Newry, Northern Ireland, is a monthly information day in the Dundalk Institute of Technology, in Dundalk, Co. Louth. Just ten miles from the border, the college attracts students from both parts of our island as well as abroad.
