Volunteers from Durham Samaritans took part in this year's Great North Run

A number of Durham Samaritans' volunteers and supporters were involved in this year's Great North Run - the world's biggest half marathon!  Our volunteer Yasmin (pictured) joined three of our supporters - Lewis (pictured), Nicola and Sophie - at the starting line in Newcastle.  In addition to raising awareness of the work of the Samaritans, these dedicated runners all completed the race and between them they have raised over £1,000 for the Durham branch.

This year's Great North Run also coincided with World Suicide Prevention Day, and Samaritans joined with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA) to raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention on the day.  Durham Samaritans volunteers joined other NSPA members at 12th mile of the course and cheered on all the runners as they struggled through the painful last mile of the race.  etween
