Kind Tesco shoppers have raised more than £1,000 for Norwich Samaritans in just two days.
The funds were raised as part of emotional support charity Samaritans’ ‘Talk to Us’ campaign for July, showing that talking can be lifesaving and that its phone and email listening service can be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Norwich Samaritans’ fundraising team were out and about at Harford Bridge Tesco on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 July where shoppers popped their spare change into the fundraising buckets amounting to around £1,250: enough to answer 250 calls to the Samaritans 116 123 helpline.
Ben Handford, Norwich Samaritans’ fundraising deputy director, said: “We’d like to give a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone that stopped by to have a quick chat and give what they could over the two days we were at Harford Bridge Tesco.
“It’s a staggering amount raised, with every penny going towards ensuring that we can be there for those that contact us in the future.”
The charity, with its 58-year-old branch in St Stephen’s Square in the city, is also raising funds for the building’s renovation which it hopes to begin in autumn 2022.
