Volunteering at Northampton Samaritans

Recruiting volunteers in Northampton

Northampton Samaritans has over 100 volunteers all of whom join us from various backgrounds and ages.

There are no minimum qualifications required but to become a volunteer of Northampton Samaritans you must be able to agree to fifteen hours per month and a 6 hour over night shift every 4 or 5 weeks.

Although we are best known for volunteers who provide support over the phone, there are many ways to help. We have opportunities in administration, fundraising, helping in the shop or through becoming a Friend of Northampton Samaritans.

What to expect when applying to become a volunteer at Northampton Samaritans

Information sessions are your chance to learn more about what we do, ask questions and discover if volunteering with Samaritans is for you. The sessions are normally held every 4/6 weeks, in the evening and last around 2 hours.

If you decide to make an application, you’ll be invited to a more in depth event. Here you can ask any questions that came out of the information session and it’ll give us a chance to learn about you and which roles best match your interests and experience.

Once your application has been approved, you’ll be given comprehensive training. After which, you’ll be able to see longer standing volunteers in action and, when you feel ready, answer your first call.

A mentor is assigned to new volunteers for approximately six months and ongoing support is always available.
