Who we're looking for
We're looking for everyday people just like you to fulfil a range of listening non-listening roles. Samaritans are open, honest and non-judgemental.
We hold open evenings twice a year to give people an idea of what volunteering is like. Once you have registered your interest, we’ll invite you to an information evening where you can find out more about joining Samaritans.
Next, you will be invited to interview and, if you’re successful, you’ll start your ten weeks’ training with us. During this time, trainees are given all the help and support they need from experienced Samaritans.
Being a 'listening' Samaritan is not something everyone feels comfortable with, so at any time during the process, you may decide not to continue. If you feel you would like to help in some other way, then there are many other volunteering roles available!
If you would like more information, or to register your interest, please email our Recruitment officer, Eric or telephone the Centre 01248 674984.
Hours of work
We ask volunteers to commit to a four hour shift every week as well as one shift overnight every four to six weeks. The shift patterns run throughout the day and evenings and even weekends, so even if you work full-time, there should be a shift available that would suit you.
